How to Build Underground in No Man’s Sky
No Man’s Sky recently received its huge “NEXT” update this week, which adds major features to the 2016 title including fully-fledged multiplayer and a giant visual overhaul of the game. Another new feature with the update is the ability to build a base anywhere on the planet, including underground. Here’s what you need to know to do exactly that and build underground in No Man’s Sky.
Base-building was first introduced in the Foundation update in Nov. 2017. It allowed players to claim any abandoned base on any planet as their own for storage and farming purposes. All you had to do to claim a base was land near it, walk inside, and start building. Only one base could be created at a time, so building a new base would transfer all supplies from the old one.
The Path Finder update in March 2017 gave players the ability to share their home base online for other players to discover, and upload it online through the Steam Workshop on PC for even easier access, though players could still only create one base at a time. The NEXT update allows players to own multiple bases, and build them anywhere without the requirement of an empty, abandoned building.
Since you can build anywhere in No Man’s Sky, one might think you cannot build into the procedurally generated terrain without a few problems. That answer is no, so you can build the diabolical underground base you have always wanted without problem. Placing room pieces now automatically carves out any landscape that is in the way, so it is possible to dig deeper into the ground for one base or an entire system underground.
That is how to build underground in No Man’s Sky. The game originally launched for PC and PlayStation 4 in Aug. 2016, and is releasing for Xbox One on July 24 this week. Check back with Twinfinite for more coverage on No Man’s Sky and its NEXT update, and our extensive wiki for more guides.
