Moonglow Bay: How to Catch the Jungle King

During the ‘Crossing the Shallows’ quest, you’ll be tasked with bringing Reese a “Jungle King” in exchange for the trawler boat you need to explore the large gate you’ve just found out at sea. The problem is, the game only tells you some very vague details about where to find and catch it. It took us far longer than it really should have to catch the fish, due to the RNG nature of it. In this guide, we’ll explain how to catch the Jungle King in Moonglow Bay to help save you a ton of time.

Catching the Jungle King in Moonglow Bay

The Jungle King can only be caught in the Perching Isles area, found southeast of Moonglow Bay itself.

You’ll also be told that the Jungle King is a large species, which means you’re going to need High-Grade Bait. This can be obtained by either cooking it with a Medium Fish (you’ll also need the Meat Cleaver), or by going to the Sea Market and exchanging low-grade bait with Grace Clout.

The next thing you’ll want to do is equip the following:

• Poise Rod
• Spinner Lure
• High-Quality Bait

As long as you’ve got this rod, lure and bait attached, you stand the best chance of catching the Jungle King.

Now it’s simply a case of casting your line out around the Perching Isles and hoping that you reel in a Jungle King.

You may be wondering why we’ve suggested the Poise Rod, when according to the game the type of rod doesn’t determine which fish you can catch. Well, we tried catching a Jungle King in the same area over 40 times with the Strong Rod and Spinner Lure, but had no luck. Within 10 tries of using the Poise Rod, we caught one.

Whether this was sheer coincidence or not remains to be seen, but either way, we’d recommend trying this combination before any other.
