How to Jump on a Monster’s Back in Monster Hunter World

Recommended Videos

Monster Hunter World provides players with a new experience, yet also retains some of the more iconic features from the series. One returning mechanic in the game is the ability to jump on a monster’s back – or mounting. This skill is a great way to deal some easy damage, assuming you manage to pull it off.

Luckily, it isn’t too difficult to mount a monster’s back in Monster Hunter World. All you have to do is hit your target with a jumping attack to mount it. Which part of the monster you hit determines which area on its body you will land on. If you are having some trouble, try attacking the monster after jumping off a ledge.

Once you successfully mount it, mash Triangle / Y to damage your target. Make sure to keep an eye on your mini-map border in Monster Hunter World, as the monster can throw you off its back if it isn’t safe to attack. When the mini-map turns red, make sure to use R2 / RT to brace and stay mounted.

There are plenty of other ways to take down your prey in Monster Hunter World. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our wiki!
