Fans have been waiting a long time for Final Fantasy XV, as its previous version Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced 10 years ago. The game finally releases on PS4 and Xbox One Nov. 29 worldwide. However, quite a few fans have been wondering if the game might ever see a release on PC.
In short, Final Fantasy XV coming to PC is a big maybe, and even if it does, it won’t be for a long time.
When Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced, it was as a PS3 exclusive, and once the game made the jump to XV, an Xbox One version joined in.The game was developed with consoles in mind, however, the game’s director Hajime Tabata did state earlier this year that the team was considering a PC version. In an interview with Engadget, Tabata basically said that the decision simply hadn’t been made.
“Unfortunately we weren’t able to do simultaneous development on a PC and console version for XV. We had to focus on the console version and our goal was to maximize, optimize everything for the HD consoles. Once that’s done, then we will definitely take a good, hard look at PC and what we need to do, and consider all our options. But right now we aren’t decided, we’re still considering a lot of things.”
We’d then hear about a PC version again in October, when Tabata spoke to Spanish site Vida Extra. There he stated that if a PC version of the game was made, the team would want to deliver the best possible version of Final Fantasy XV, and it would take over a year to develop.
“We could say that something like this would take us more than a year. We should work to adapt the engine, which is very laborious, and from there to develop its course.”
Tabata has made it quite clear that he knows people are asking for a PC version of the game, and at least the answer isn’t a flat out no. For now though, you’ll need to pick up the game on PS4 or Xbox One when it releases on Nov. 29.
