How to Promote Characters in Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes

It's promotin' time.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is a new game from Team Ninja and Omega Force, and serves as a retelling of the story in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. While the combat system is drastically different from what series fans might be used to, a lot of core systems from Fire Emblem remain intact here. Here’s how to promote characters in Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes.

Every character in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes starts with a basic class, and they’ll eventually be able to attain Intermediate, Advanced, and Master classes.

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Character Promotions Explained

The road to Master is long, however, and you’ll need special items called Seals to promote characters.

In addition to that, you also need to improve the training grounds at your camp in order to allow your characters to actually take the class promotion exam.

This is a slight change from the usual Fire Emblem formula, but we’ll go over the steps below.

How to Promote Characters in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

  1. Make sure your character has already mastered the prerequisite job.

For instance, to promote a Thief to a Trickster, the Thief job needs to be mastered. This can be done by training with the Training Instructor at camp, or through just gaining experience over time in combat.

  2. Buy a Seal.

You’ll need an Intermediate, Advanced, or Master Seal in order to promote a character.

  3. Upgrade the Training Grounds.

You don’t need any facility upgrades for the Intermediate class, but you do need two upgrades for the Advanced and Master classes.

  4. Speak with the Training Instructor and choose the Acquire Class option.

  5. Select the character you want to promote, then choose the class you want them to acquire.

How to Get Seals in Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes

There are three main ways to get Seals in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, as listed below:

  • Purchasing them from the Item Shopkeeper
  • Purchasing them from Anna
  • Getting them as quest completion rewards

Intermediate Seals can be purchased at the very start from the game, and you should have no shortage of these going forward. However, Advanced Seals will only become available in Chapter 7, while Master Seals get unlocked in Chapter 10.

In between each chapter, you’ll want to check in with Anna and the Item Shopkeeper, and make sure to buy out their limited stock of Seals. While progressing through the game, you’ll also want to keep an eye out for quests that offer up Seals as clear rewards, and liberate those regions before progressing on to the main chapter battle.

Upgrading the Training Grounds

Aside from getting the Seals, you’ll also need to upgrade the Training Grounds in order to unlock the certification exams for Advanced and Master Classes. Head over to the Facilities Master back at camp and speak with him to upgrade the Training Grounds.

You’ll want to go for the Advanced Class Certification Exam and Master Class Certification Exam upgrades. Getting to these upgrades will take time, and you can expect to unlock the Advanced Exam in Chapter 7, and the Master Exam in Chapter 10.

The key reason for that is because the upgrade materials required for them can only be obtained in those chapters respectively. For instance, the Elite materials will start dropping as quest rewards in Chapter 7, while the Lavish materials will drop in Chapter 10.

This coincides nicely with when you start getting your Seals as well, so there’s no need to rush or feel pressured to promote your characters as quickly as possible.
