How to Start The Frozen Wilds in Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn’s new DLC, The Frozen Wilds, has finally arrived, taking players on a chilly excursion up to the very north of the map. New quests, beasts, weapons, and collectibles all lay in wait in the ice-cold terrain, but first, you’ll need to make your way up there. Here’s what you need to know to start The Frozen Wilds DLC in Horizon Zero Dawn.

First things first, you’ll need to seek out one of three different NPCs. These will give you a brief rundown of exactly what’s going on with the Banuk up in the north, as well as activate the quest and enable you to start the DLC. You can find these NPCs in the following locations:

  • The one that we spoke to in order to get The Frozen Wilds going was Ohtur. You can find him inside the Carja border fort known as Daytower near the center of the map. You’ll spot him because of a new blue quest marker floating just above his head. Speak with him, ask what questions you want, and you’ll be all set to start The Frozen Wilds.
  • The next one you can find is outside of Meridian. Look for a guy called Rhavid, a Carja Noble who knows a thing or two about what’s going on up in the Banuk borderlands. Again, speak with him and you’ll be able to start The Frozen Wilds quests in Horizon Zero Dawn.
  • Finally, if you find yourself up toward the north of the map anyway, you can simply look for Yariki. She’s a Banuk woman to the very north of the Grave Hoard. She’ll tell you she’s just leaving the Cut and says it’s a dangerous land. Once you’ve listened to her warnings, you’ll be free to start The Frozen Wilds.

From this point, simply start heading north following the trail highlighted on your map and you’ll eventually find yourself in new territory. Now it’s time to start The Frozen Wilds DLC.
