Godfall Soulshatter Explained: What It Does, How to Use

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox Software, Godfall is a brand new looter-slasher game that’s just been released for the PS5 and PC via the Epic Games Store. It features fun, tactile melee combat and it comes with quite a few in-depth mechanics you’ll need to master in order to excel in the game. Here’s how the Soulshatter mechanic works in Godfall.

Dealing Soulshatter Damage in Godfall

Early on in the game, you’ll be tasked with dealing Soulshatter damage to defeat a set number of enemies.

The game doesn’t actually do a very good job of explaining exactly how you should go about doing that, so here’s a quick breakdown of how it works.

In Godfall, you have two types of attacks: a light attack with the R1/RB button, and a heavy attack with the R2/RT button.

Essentially, hitting enemies with your light attack will apply something called Soulshatter buildup to your enemy’s health bar.

You can easily identify this by looking at how part of the enemy’s health bar will turn white as you hit them with light attacks.

The white portion is the buildup, and once you hit them with a heavy attack, you’ll deal heavy damage and take off that entire white chunk off their health.

Simply put, this can allow you to deal tons of damage in one go if you time it correctly. And in order to kill an enemy with Soulshatter damage, simply use light attacks until the buildup covers the remainder of their health bar, then hit them with a heavy attack.

What Godfall Soulshatter Does

While it might seem easier to just spam light attacks until your foe dies in Godfall, it can actually be beneficial to focus on Soulshatter damage instead.

By hitting an enemy with Soulshatter damage, it’s possible to stun them and open them up for a big attack.

The ability can also be upgraded with skill points, and once it’s fully maxed out, Soulshatter damage can create a shockwave that speads buildup to surrounding enemies, making it even easier for you to take out hordes of enemies quickly.

That’s all you need to know about how Soulshatter damage works in Godfall. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
