The framework for Apex Legends was possible by the great strides Respawn Entertainment made with their previous game Titanfall 2. Both Apex and Titanfall take place in the same universe, just 30 years apart.

Sure, Titanfall 2 isn’t a battle royale game, but it features the weapons and movement you love from Apex Legends with the bonus of giant mech suits hurling out of the skies for you to pilot.

A fully fleshed out campaign and a bevy of different multiplayer modes will give you even more of an appreciation for the shared universe Respawn have hand-crafted.

Titanfall 2 also has the bonus of wall running which makes for some even more insane movement options while getting around those maps. So when you’re feeling a little burnt out on Apex Legends give Titanfall 2 a chance. Blasting players in a giant mech is an excellent way to blow off some steam.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Blackout

One of Apex Legends biggest rivals is the battle royale mode known as Blackout. Blackout is a mode included in this year’s Call of Duty, Black Ops 4. Both games are very similar in a lot of ways, in fact, out of all of the battle royale games on the market these two have the most in common.

Both are incredibly polished and visually pleasing first-person battle royale games. While Blackout doesn’t have character abilities, some of those features are still present in Blackout.

In Blackout players can find perks just like any other lootable item on the ground, which can be used to gain a short term buff to help them in the match. Some can be used for tracking enemies, and others can provide stronger melee hits or even quieter footsteps.

Outside of just battle royale, Black Ops 4 also offers some of the best competitive multiplayer for the series to date, as well as some unique zombies maps that is great for team cooperation.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was one of the first in the battle royale genre to blow up. It was a trendsetter that got cannibalized some as Fortnite and Apex Legends started gaining momentum. This is not to say this a bad game by any means, in fact, it’s still an incredible game.

PUBG is a fantastic third-person military focused battle royale game that delivers on the tension and high-stakes matches that fans love about the genre.

With a handful of maps, including a snow map where players can track enemies footprints, PUBG is excellent for anyone looking to broaden their battle royale horizons or is merely looking for a change of pace.

Chances are if you’re playing Apex Legends you’ve already at least heard of the juggernaut that is Fortnite. This game blew up not only in the battle royale genre but on the Twitch scene as well. Fortnite has gained a level of popularity unlike many games we’ve seen in our lifetime and for a good reason.

Epic has been hard at work to continually innovate and improve the game based on community feedback and have honestly changed how we interact with “living games”.

It seems like every week in Fortnite there is something new that changes up the landscape of how players interact with the game whether that is an in-game event, a new weapon or item, or just a crazy new skin for players to hunt for.

The building mechanic in Fortnite is what sets itself apart from the competition. Building structures to provide cover for you and your teammates while confusing the enemy is 90% of that game, which makes from exhilarating moment to moment combat.

Realm Royale

Realm Royale takes the battle royale genre to the fantasy setting. It isn’t focused on being a military shooter, or really a shooter at all. Realm Royale is a class-based battle royale game similar to Apex Legends but concentrates heavily on spellcasting and magical abilities rather than a situational combat toolkit.

Players will have to level their characters up throughout the match to obtain some of their most potent abilities, unlike Apex where everyone starts with their entire class loadout. This is a great choice for anyone looking for something entirely different but still, want those high stakes that the genre is known for.
