What’s New in Fortnite’s Playground V2? What You Need to Know
The second version of Fortnite Battle Royale’s Playground mode, appropriately titled Playground V2, launches July 25, and with it, quite a few changes are coming to the free-play mode.
If you’re unfamiliar with the limited-time mode, Playground, Epic Games, dubs it as a low-pressure environment where players can simply do whatever they want — build, shoot, drive and more. Now, with V2, the ante has been upped.
During Playground V2, players will now be able to switch teams in-game. Despite this, voice chat will remain on across all teams with future iterations of the mode striving to offer more voice chat customization. Aim assist will work when using a gamepad against players on an opposing team and now, when a player leaves the server, the match will continue. The golf carts that arrived to the map with the launch of Season 5 will make an appearance in Playground V2 and will spawn 100 percent of the time.
Speaking of spawns, ammo cans scattered throughout the map now spawn 10 times the amount of ammo. Grey vending machines have been removed, which increases the chances of higher-tier machines spawning. Launch pad and bounce pads will also see their spawn rates increased in Fortnite’s Playground V2 mode.
With Playground V2, players will be able to get back into the action quicker with a lowered forced glider deploy height. When they hit the ground, they’ll see that their max rocket ammo has been increased to 60 with increased ammo drop rates. An additional 100 supply drops will be added to each Playground V2 match in Fortnite, so if you’re struggling to find rocket ammo on the ground, chances are you’ll find some in one of these drops. If not, chests, which will now spawn three weapons and more ammo and consumable than normal, might have the ammo you’re looking for.
All floor loot now spawns three items in Fortnite’s Playground V2, with an increased chance of finding a Chug Jug or Slurp Juice since these consumables saw their spawn rates raised as well. Bandages, though, will be harder to come by — their spawn rates were decreased. Finally, the respawn timer following your death has been lowered from 10 seconds to three seconds.
These changes to the popular Playground mode will be live when Fortnite Battle Royale Update v5.10 launches tomorrow, July 25.
