What Rewards There Are in Fortnite Battle Royale

Fortnite Battle Royale’s release on Xbox One and PS4 has sparked a lot of interest. It takes the basic premise of PUBG and throws it into the vibrantly-colored cartoon world of Fortnite. There are a bunch of similarities between the two games, but many players are wondering if Fortnite Battle Royale actually has rewards for being the sole survivor at the end of a match.

Update: Epic Games has since added rewards to the game via a patch. All players can now earn XP by completing Daily Challenges, working towards raising their level and earning customization options for their Banner. There’s also a premium system called the Battle Pass, which adds a deeper progression system on top of the Locker and Stats. For a one-off payment, players can take part in a “season” of daily challenges, earning XP to not only increase their level but earn tangible rewards, too. This includes V-Bucks, the in-game currency that is normally acquired through spending real money. Although you’re still technically paying a microtransaction, it does add a fun challenge to the game in which you’ll obtain more customization rewards by completing objectives than you would by spending the equivalent amount on a single purchase.

Fortnite Battle Royale does have rewards, although, at the moment they’re a little scarce. If you win a match, your character will then use an umbrella to descend from the Battle Bus in future matches, rather than the typical glider. It’s worth noting that you’ll only have the umbrella in the game mode that you won in. If you want the umbrella in solo and you won in group, you’ll need to go ahead and win in solo, too.

Though this may seem a little underwhelming, this could change in the future. Over on the Epic Games forums, a member of the development team stated that “In the future we’re considering different cosmetic rewards/ compendium-like content between PvP and PvE.” Unfortunately, no further details were shared, but it’s a promising sign of more rewards to come, at least.
