FFXI Odyssey Guide: Sheol A, B, & C Explained

The first area you can enter is Sheol A, and you’ll have 30 minutes in total to explore it.

In Sheol A, and all the lettered Sheols for that matter, you will be in an unmapped area of Walk of Echoes, and will encounter packs of enemies.

There are two types: Nostos and Agon. Nostos can be just about any non-Beastmen enemy, and Agon are Beastmen. Nearly all of the enemy packs will be just Nostos enemies.

However, one pack will be a mix of Nostos and Agon. You can see Agon enemies and they will attack you (via True Sight and True Sound), but they are translucent and cannot be attacked by you at first.

The only way you can defeat these Agon is by destroying an Agon Halo near where the enemies roam. Once the Agon Halo is destroyed, you are free to clear the Agon Beastmen enemies if you wish.

You can also entirely avoid Agon enemies and any Nostos packs by carefully walking around them.

Currencies: Moogle Segments and Izzat

Defeating enemies while in the lettered Sheols will drop Moogle Segments and Izzat.

Segments can be used to purchase lustreless items (not recommended as the number of segments needed per item is terrible) or be used to spawn Sheol Gaol NMs later on (recommended). Segments accumulated by killing enemies in any lettered Sheol zone do not expire.

Izzats are used to spawn NMs from an Ethereal Junction that will appear at the location of the Agon Beastmen and the Halo once the Halo and all of the Beastmen are defeated. More on these NMs in a moment. Izzats are counted on the top left of the screen and in your log, and do expire at the end of each run.

UNM Ethereal Junctions

In addition to the Ethereal Junctions that spawn after killing the Agon enemies on each floor, there are other Ethereal Junctions that appear throughout each floor that you can spawn NMs with using UNM equipment. You can kill these NMs for additional rewards at the end if you wish.

Check out the BG Wiki guide on Odyssey for more details on which UNM NMs you can pop on each floor.

Reaching the End & How to Unlock All Sheol Zones in FFXI

Each Sheol in FFXI has a number of different floors. They’re accessed by finding the Vertical Conflux in each floor to go up to the next floor. On the last floor, the final conflux will give you a Gil reward based on the number of enemies you defeated prior to touching it. It will also give you a box of lustreless items.

You don’t need to leave the area once you touch that Conflux. You can continue to farm if you want, but the Gil and box rewards from killing the Izzat NM(s) from the Agon Halo/Beastmen are locked in for that run the moment you touch it.

You only need to reach the final Conflux at least one time in order to unlock each Sheol area. If you need help reaching the end of each Sheol to unlock all four areas, here are some helpful video guides from FFXI YouTubers cloudchief arcade and NextGames: Sheol A, Sheol B, Sheol C.

For example, reaching the final Conflux on the last floor of A will unlock Sheol B when you go and speak to the Pilgrim Moogle next. Finishing B will unlock C, and reaching the end of C will grant access to Sheol Gaol. Make sure to activate the Records of Eminence objective within the Content>Odyssey section for each Sheol for a one-time reward.

You don’t have to hit the end to get benefits out of Odyssey, and some strategies for farming it do not advise it. But if you want the Gil and box rewards, you’ll need to reach the end and hit that last Conflux.
