Does Power Level Matter in Destiny 2: Forsaken’s Gambit Mode?
The highly anticipated new game mode for Destiny 2: Forsaken, Gambit, is finally playable. All players can get a taste of Gambit before Destiny 2: Forsaken launches (AKA, the weekend before at the time of this post), and after that on Sept. 4, you will need to purchase Forsaken to access Gambit.
If you’re here, you’re probably wondering if your power level will matter in Gambit. Both Destiny 1 and 2 have had an on again, off again, relationship with power level in PvP modes. In Destiny 1, Iron Banner went from factoring power level in barely at all, to some and now as of Destiny 2, it’s just a timed PvP event with no power level. Same goes with Trials of Osiris/Nine. It – at first -heavily factored in power level, but as of Destiny 2, it’s more of a timed competitive-minded PvP event. Gambit is a little odd because it has elements of both PvP and PvE.
As of the time of this writing, Bungie is still hammering out the specifics on how power level will work in it. Bungie has mentioned that the barrier for entry on the PvE side of things will be low, but that the PvP might still factor in power level somewhat in this new game mode. When the mode is fully released, it is likely Bungie will chime and let the community know one way or another, how much your gear’s strength will actually matter (if at all) in Destiny 2: Forsaken’s Gambit mode, or if it’s designed to be an event purely based on player skill only.
We’ll be sure to update this post once we have a firm answer on whether or not power level matters in Gambit. Either way, it’s an incredibly fun game mode that should serve to mix things up for Destiny fans that have gotten use to just PvP or PvE.
