Is Death Stranding Coming to Xbox One? What You Need to Know

Hideo Kojima is a bit of an icon in the video games industry right now, having been the creative mind behind the Metal Gear Solid series up until his departure from Konami shortly after the release of Phantom Pain back in 2015. Since then, Kojima has opened up his own studio, Kojima Productions, and the entire team is hard at work on its upcoming title, Death Stranding. We’ve already seen Norman Reedus, Guillermo Del Toro, and more big-name celebrities featuring in Kojima’s latest title, and even after several trailers, its narrative still remains unclear. While we know Death Stranding is currently set to release for the PS4, some Xbox One owners may be wondering if they’ll get the chance to check out the game themselves.

Unfortunately, we’ve got to be the bearers of bad news this time around. Death Stranding will release exclusively on the PS4, and will not be coming to the Xbox One. When PlayStation first shared the news that it was in partnership with ‘one of the most celebrated game developers in history’ it noted within the video description “The first software title created by the newly formed Kojima Productions will be console exclusive to PlayStation 4.”

Though this may come as disappointing news to Xbox One owners, it’s worth noting that ‘console exclusivity’ wouldn’t stop the game from showing up on PC. Nothing has been mentioned as of yet regarding Death Stranding officially coming to PC, but it’s always a possibility post-launch.

That would be highly unlikely, however, with Death Stranding donning a ‘PlayStation Exclusives’ badge over on its official page on the PlayStation site.

For now, we’re still waiting to see exactly when Death Stranding will release on PS4… or Sony hardware if the development process takes us into the PS5’s era. Here’s hoping it’ll be sooner rather than later.

That’s all you need to know regarding whether or not Death Stranding is coming to Xbox One. For more tips, tricks, and general information about everything video games, be sure to search for Twinfinite.
