Darksiders 3: How to Save

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Darksiders 3 isn’t the lengthiest game of all time, but you’ll still hit points where you’ll need to take a break and recharge between play sessions. That’s why we’re here to walk you through how to save your game.

How to Save in Darksiders 3

Like most other modern games out there, Darksiders 3 uses an auto-save system to record your process. You’ll know this is happening when a symbol appears at the bottom right corner of the screen.

These automatic checkpoints prompt regularly whenever you enter a new section of an area, speak to Vulgrim at any of his Serpent Holes, defeat bosses, or select the Exit Game option from the pause menu.

While this may not sound like a common occurrence, it happens frequently enough that you aren’t likely to lose progress from it, unless a crash occurs just as the save is taking place.

Is There a Manual Save Option?

Even still, you might be the kind of player who feels better saving the game yourself to have more control over when and how Darksiders 3 records your progress.

Unfortunately, this is impossible. No manual save option is available in the game, making the automatic checkpoints the only method for recording your progress and continuing your game.

There is likewise no method for making a hard save of your game. The auto-saves will constantly record over each other, making it impossible to revert to a prior auto-save once a new one has taken its place.

Fortunately, there are a few workarounds to this. One option is to enter and exit a section of an area to control when an auto-save triggers.

You can keep an eye out for these points by watching the bottom right corner of the screen for when the auto-save symbol appears.

The other option is to use the aforementioned Exit Game auto-save function.

While this occasionally reverts you to the last checkpoint you passed – typically when you haven’t progressed far enough past said checkpoint – it more often than not allows you to pick up directly from where you were at the end of your last play session, establishing your own temporary checkpoint.

Again though, this is only temporary and will be overwritten as soon as you trigger a new checkpoint.

That should cover everything there is to know about how to save in Darksiders 3. For more on the game, check out our guides on how to get past the Tornado as well as how to find chunks of Adamantine.
