Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, has arrived… on time, and is now available for players to jump in and experience some old-school Crash action. Many features from the original trilogy of games are back and that includes the optional time trial relics that you can collect in an effort to get 100% completion. Here’s how to start time trials and to start getting relics in Crash 4.

How to Start a Time Trial in Crash 4

You cannot start doing time trials right away in Crash 4. You first need to go ahead and complete the first two levels in order to unlock the Dimensional Map. Once you’ve unlocked it, you’ll be able to back track to previous levels you completed.

On the map, back track to a level and start it up. It does not matter what character you’re using or whether you’re in Retro or Modern mode.

When you start the level you will see a golden stopwatch somewhere near the start. When you touch that the level will shift into time trial mode and you’ll be off to the races.

Many boxes will turn into special time trial boxes that are labeled 1, 2 or 3. When you hit them, they will stop the timer by that amount of seconds that the box was labeled with.

Time trials must be completed in one life — you are not able to die or utilize check points. They do not count towards the three deaths or less Gem.

Relics in Crash 4

Your reward for completing time trials in Crash are relics. Relics are a trophy that honors your quick runs. There are three types: Regular, Gold and Platinum.

Each relic has a time associated with it and you’ll always get the best possible relic that you earned after you complete a run; you will not have to run it three times if you got platinum time already.

Relics are tied to trophies and achievements in Crash 4 and 100%ing the game will require you to get a platinum relic in each stage. This might arguably be the hardest leg of getting 100% so make sure you practice!
