This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

If the end of the Dark Souls series has left a hole in your heart, you might want to keep an eye out from Code Vein, a new third-person action RPG from Bandai Namco. It adopts a lot of similar elements like stamina-based combat, bonfire-like checkpoints, and recursive level design. Here’s how to level up in Code Vein.

How to Level Up in Code Vein

Just like in your typical Soulsborne game, you’ll level up your character in Code Vein by resting at a checkpoint, known as Mistles in this game.

Think of them as bonfires, where if you rest at them, you’ll recover all your health and healing items, but also respawn all enemies. To level up, rest at a Mistle, then select the Level Up option from the menu that pops up.

From here, if you have enough Haze, you can press right on the d-pad to select how many times you level up. Unlike in most Souls-like games, though, you don’t actually get to choose which stats you want to upgrade when you level up.

Code Vein does this automatically for you, raising your health, stamina, and attack and defense values.

If you really want to play around with your stats, you’ll need to experiment with the Blood Codes available in the game.

How to Get Haze

Haze is the main form of currency in Code Vein, and it’s used to level your character up, as well as unlock Gifts and gear upgrades and transformations.

The most basic way of getting Haze is by killing enemies in the game, though you can also find Loss Shards, with give you a set amount of Haze when you use them.

If you’re really stuck for Haze in Code Vein, you can also sell any gear you’re no longer using for some. Just make sure you’re not selling gear that you’re currently using.

In addition to that, you’ll also gain access to the Mercury Blood Code early on in the game, when you talk to Coco at the Home Base. This Blood Code gives you access to a Gift that increases the amount of Haze you get from killing enemies, and can be really helpful for farming if you need it.

That’s all you need to know about how to level up in Code Vein. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our Code Vein guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
