How to Get All Trophies in Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry

Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry is the standalone DLC for the fourth game in the series, Black Flag. The DLC is relatively short, and achieving all the trophies for this game should be straightforward. There are 12 trophies on offer here, but unfortunately, Freedom Cry doesn’t have a platinum. To help you unlock all of these shiny baubles, we’ve put together the following trophy guide to make your mission that little bit easier.

Our recommendation is that you play through the Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry’s main story arc and achieve 100% synchronization before moving on to clean up. Unlike other Assassin’s Creed games, 100% synchronization in Freedom Cry only requires you to complete each story mission and tick off all of the optional objectives. You can always replay missions if you miss a necessary optional objective.

Liberation Day (Bronze) – Free your first slave. A very easy trophy that should be achieved early in Freedom Cry. All you need do is free a single slave.

His Full Attention (Gold) – Achieve 100% synchronization. As we mentioned before, Freedom Cry does not require you to find every single collectible and side mission for full synchronization. You must, however, complete all the optional objectives in each mission if you want to get this trophy.

Silence, Fool! (Bronze) – Kill a guard ringing a bell. Go to a plantation and engage in combat with a guard. As the guard flees to ring the bell, a red icon should appear above his head. Wait for him to actually ring the bell and then quickly kill him. Use the blunderbuss for best results.

Killer Killer (Bronze) – Harpoon a killer whale. To pop this trophy you will need to find and harpoon a killer whale. As soon as you are able to use the Experto Crede (your ship), you can go and unlock this trophy. The coordinates at which the whale will spawn are 312, 359.

To harpoon the killer whale, navigate the ship toward the coordinates and then press and hold the circle button to activate the harpoon mini game. You will then be aboard a smaller row boat for the actual harpoon sequence.

While harpooning, you have a limited amount of ammunition, so make sure you’re aiming carefully by holding L1 before hitting R1 to throw a harpoon. Aiming also increases the damage of each landed harpoon. When you hit the whale it will swim around, bucking until it breaks free. Hit the whale again and repeat the process until it is dead.

Mer-man (Bronze) – Swim a total of 1 nmi. All you need to do to unlock this trophy is swim one nautical mile. You do not need to swim in a straight line, so you could technically just swim in circles until it pops. This trophy should unlock if you’ve spent time visiting all the islands in Freedom Cry. There is no way to measure the distance you have swum; so as Dory always says, just keeping swimming…

Thug Life (Bronze) – Plunder 30 ships. This trophy requires you to plunder thirty enemy ships, and it is one of the bigger undertakings in Freedom Cry as far as trophies go. Annoyingly, you can’t actually tell how many ships you have plundered, so just keep going until it pops.

To plunder a ship, you will first need to incapacitate it by shooting out its sails. When a ship is incapacitated, you will notice a grappling hook icon (the same used for this trophy) appear above it. Simply move the Experto Crede alongside and then press and hold circle to begin boarding.

Depending on the size of the ship, you will then have to navigate its interior and kill a certain number of crew members before it is plundered. For the largest ships in Freedom Cry – the Frigate and Man o’ War – there are additional objectives that you must tick off before it is counted as plundered.

These are as follows:

  • Destroy the Enemy Flag – Climb the main mast and press circle to destroy it.
  • Explode the Gunpowder Barrels – Either run toward the barrel and press circle to ignite it, or use the blunderbuss to initiate the explosion.
  • Kill the Enemy’s Scouts – The scouts are located on the main and rear mast. When you climb onto their platform they will instantly attack you. Counter their attack by pressing square and then press square to kill them. Pressing X while countering will disarm them, giving you a musket.
  • Kill the Enemy’s Officers – You will need to counter the attacks of these tougher-than-standard enemies. Normal attacks are ineffective.
  • Kill the Enemy Captain – The captain is a tough old sea dog. Break his defense with X and then attack him. Alternatively, shoot from a distance or assassinate from above for an easier kill.

Roped In (Bronze) – Perform 5 air assassinations from a swinging rope. To achieve this trophy you must assassinate five enemies from a swinging rope. The easiest way to do this is during a boarding of another ship. As the ship draws near, run toward the rope and swing on it. When the enemies come into range, you can hit square to perform the assassination.

All Aboard! (Bronze) – Board a ship without losing any crew members. You must board an enemy ship without losing a single crew member. This trophy is tougher than it might first appear because you can’t actually pop it by boarding a small ship such as a Schooner. Instead, you’ll have to take on a Brig or something larger. During Freedom Cry, you’ll get familiar with the appearance of each class of ship, but the giveaway is how many enemies are onboard. A Brig has 10 enemies, anything more is either a Frigate (15) or a Man o’ War (20).

You should pop this trophy during normal gameplay, but if you’re struggling, try using the swivel guns to take out enemies before boarding the ship.

Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry Secret Trophies

His Own Medicine (Bronze) – Disarm the Gouverneur and kill him with the branding iron. In the ninth mission of Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry, you will infiltrate the Gouverneur’s estate. Following a short cutscene in which you will see him branding a slave, a guard will ring the alarm bell. Startled, the Gouverneur will flee, and you will need to pursue him quickly until he turns to fight you. Do not attack him with a weapon. Instead, you will need to disarm him by de-equipping your weapon (press down twice), wait for him to attack, and then press circle to counter. Once you have him in a hold, press X to grab his branding iron. Now you can go to town hitting him with it. The trophy will pop when you have finished him off.

His Word Was “Perhaps” (Silver) – Complete all missions. You will get this trophy once you have completed all the main story missions in Freedom Cry. Do keep in mind, though, that in order to get the 100% synchronization you will need to make sure you are being diligent in completing all the optional objectives.

And that’s all you need to know to unlock all of the trophies on offer in Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry.
