Devilman Crybaby is yet another controversial anime that became widely successful after it aired on Netflix earlier this year. While the setting greatly differs from Goblin Slayer, it’s just as dark and brutal.
The anime centers around a timid student named Akira who one day reunites with his childhood friend, Ryo. The latter informs his friend about an ancient demon race that plans on taking over the world and urges Akira to bond with a demon.
Akira adopts his new form and transforms into Devilman, essentially giving him the powers of a demon yet retaining his demon soul. His life takes a major turn, setting the events that would eventually decide the fate of the world.
The Goblin Slayer and Akira share similarities in terms of their hatred for both goblins and demons respectively, often lashing out in mass killing sprees. However, both characters aren’t afraid to go out on a limb to save those closest to them.
