destiny

(Complete any of the Exotic Sword quests from Shaxx.)

If you don’t have an Exotic Sword in Destiny by now, you should definitely be looking to get one not only because you’ll complete one of the new Year Two Triumphs, but also because they’re just really badass tools of destruction. Before you can even unlock an Exotic Sword quest, though, you’ll need to have a sword. It’s not too difficult to obtain one, although you will have to complete The Taken King’s main quest line first. Here’s how to get yourself a shiny new blade.

Once you have one, continue to upgrade the weapon until it reaches at least 280 Attack. After this point Lord Shaxx will offer you an exotic quest where you’ll get to choose which Burn you want, the quest will be called “A Sword Reforged.” Each part of this quest is sort of time consuming, but none are difficult until you reach the fifth part called “Sealing the Blade.” This will require you to kill Alak-Hul (the Darkblade) and a specified Warden of Oryx within 30 seconds of one another. The easiest way to complete this part is to have two friends with you who already have exotic swords of the burns you don’t want, or to have friends running complementary subclasses to yours (ex: if you’re running void, they should run arc and solar). This will make whittling down the health of enemies much easier, allowing you to bring Alak-Hul and the warden down to a low percentage. Once that’s done, kill the warden then everyone should immediately gang up on Alak-Hul to finish him off.

Once that’s done head back to Lord Shaxx and collect your 310 exotic sword.

The-Taken-King-Oryx-Destiny-Raid-Boss

(Defeat Oryx in the King’s Fall Raid on Hard Diffiulty)

The King’s Fall Raid proved to be quite the challenge for Guardians on normal, so beating it on hard may seem too daunting a task for some. But, Bungie didn’t go the “let’s just give everyone more health and strength” route this time around. Instead, there are new mechanics introduced to the encounters in this Destiny raid that will force you to play smarter, not just increase your DPS.

There are a few major differences to consider when playing the raid on hard:

  • The recommended is 310 but late-raid enemies have light levels closer to 320. You can still survive if you’re lower (provided you have some skill and a good team), but better to play it safe.
  • The Warpriest gains a lot of Taken abilities and the fight moves much faster. Glyphs must be activated immediately, and adds will have more strength and numbers.
  • Golgoroth has a new debuff called Unstable Light. Whoever ends up with this needs to head to the Pool of Reclaimed Light (the white stuff that gives you bonus damage against the boss) and fight the monstrosity. However, after 10 seconds, they will emit a huge burst of light that can kill anything nearby, including teammates. So keep an eye on the clock.
  • Finally, Oryx himself. The main new feature here is that there are Light Eater Knights that spawn each time you take out an Ogre. These bastards act just like the Vessel, meaning they will target the bombs you’ve created. If they eat them, a huge explosion will wipe your team. This adds a new element to manage in the short time you have before Oryx slams his fist, so be prepared.
  • Oh, and don’t die.

One strategy used by some is to leave the ogres for last. This requires a lot of firepower and perfect timing. After staggering Oryx, you then proceed to wipe out the Ogres and activate their bombs, that way you never have to worry about the knights since all enemies wipe after this phase anyway. But, you should use what works best for your team.

The rest of the final fight plays out pretty much the same, so it’s just a matter of perseverance. Good luck.

The Play’s the Thing

destiny, triumphs

(Complete the Taken King main Questline, culminating in Regicide. )

Complete Destiny: The Taken King’s primary story. You don’t have to complete the raid for this particular Triumph, although you do need to for one of the others. Simply play through each story mission until you have to face Oryx on the Dreadnaught (this mission comes after you steal Crota’s Souls to become Ascendant.  If you’ve had this expansion for some time, then chances are you’ve already accomplished this task. But just in case you haven’t, here’s a quick rundown of the fight.

Defeating Oryx in this mission is nothing like when you face him at the end of the King’s Fall raid. Oryx will teleport around between the platforms, making it a bit difficult to land shots on him at times, but if you’re working with your team you’ll be perfectly fine. If you happen to be playing solo, just use patience, and make sure to wipe out the constant waves of adds this boss sends out.

At certain points in the fight (based on how much damage you’ve done to Oryx), you will be transported to an area surrounded by mist where Taken will appear to fight you. Kill the Taken in order to draw Oryx out of the mist’s protection, opening the foul beast up to your damage.

Just rinse and repeat until he falls. Collect your triumph and move on to the next challenge.

This is Amazing

destiny

(Complete the Crucible questline culminating in “The Mountaintop.”)

This is quite possibly the longest Triumph on the list, and will prove to be the most challenging for those who normally just stick to Destiny’s PvE component. In order to earn this Triumph you’ll have to complete a pretty long Crucible questline from Lord Shaxx. Luckily you can start the questline almost immediately.

  1. Crucible Forged – Get 8 kills in a Control match while your team holds at least two zones. Turn it in with Shaxx to get next quest.
  2. Crucible Combat – Get 12 kills in Clash playlist. Get 5 kills in Rift playlist while your team’s runner is active. Get 12 kills in Rumble playlist. Get 8 kills in Skirmish playlist. Salvage 3 Relics in Salvage playlist. Once all of that is done, turn it in to Lord Shaxx to get the next part.
  3. Conquer the Day – Complete a match in the Daily Crucible playlist. Win a match in the Daily Crucible playlist. Win 4 matches in the same playlist. Turn in to Shaxx for the next quest.
  4. Factions – talk to each faction head and complete their Crucible quests. You don’t need to pledge allegiance, only talk to them and accept the quest. When all are complete, head back to Lord Shaxx.
  5. Trials Practice – Win 5 matches in Elimination playlist then turn it in to Shaxx. The next quest is obtained from Arcite 99-40 ( The Crucible Quartermaster).
  6. Break the Ceiling – Win 5 Crucible matches with a score of at least 1200 points. Return to Arcite 99-40 to turn this quest in. The next quest is obtained from Banshee-44 (Gunsmith).
  7. Weapon Master – Win 3 Crucible matches with at least six Auto Rifle kills. Win 3 Matches with at least six Pulse Rifle kills. Win 3 Matches with at least six Scout Rilfe kills. Win 3 Matches with at least six Hand Cannon kills. After that, turn it in to Banshee-44, then return to Lord Shax.
  8. The Mountaintop – Earn 9 points through crucible. Each win nets you three points, but starting a match will cost you one point. Once completed, return to Lord Shaxx for completion.

Eris Morn’s Revenge

destiny

(Collect all 50 Calcified Fragments.)

Among the many new things added to Destiny through The Taken King was a new set of collectibles called Calcified Fragments. These were well-hidden shards that opened up lore in the Grimoire related to Oryx’s origins and the Hive. The items were tied to obtaining the Touch of Malice exotic, so there’s a good chance that a lot of you already got a majority of these items (you needed 45 out of 50 to obtain this gun). To obtain the Triumph, however, you’ll need all 50.

They are well-hidden, but with the help of a guide you should have no issues knocking this one out in a couple of hours. Do keep in mind that the last few are tied to the Tier 3 bosses of the Court of Oryx which rotate weekly. So you may want to get the jump on those ASAP, as those have a chance of screwing your Triumphs over.

Return to the Reef

Destiny, Varicks

(Complete the April quests “At the Gates” and “Return to the Prison”)

The free April Update introduced several new quests as well as an update to the Prison of Elders activity that was part of the House of Wolves expansion in Year One. In order to earn this Triumph, you’ll need to complete two of Variks’ quests, one of which will push you to challenge yourself in the updated PoE.

At the Gates is fairly simple, and story-related. Returning to the Prison, however, will have you completing the Level 41 Prison of Elders (not too difficult), but then completing the Challenge of the Elders. This is the PoE with added difficulty and a new point system. Those points are tied to your rewards, so you’ll want to earn as many points as possibly by getting kills and defeating bosses quickly. Luckily, you don’t have to get a high score to earn this Triumph, you do still need to complete the challenge, though, which is difficult enough if you don’t have the right team.

Challenge of the Elders

destiny challenge of the elders

(Complete an Elder’s Sigil scorecard in the Prison of Elders.)

This Triumph will also run you through Destiny’s new Challenge of the Elders mode, although you’ll actually have to shoot for a high score this time. Each week you’ll be able to obtain an Elder’s Sigil. You fill the Sigil by reaching one two different point thresholds, each which grants you a reward. 30,000 points earns you a weapon from Variks, and 90,000 points earns you a piece of armor, both of which are end-game level gear. You’ll need to complete the 90,000 point tier at least once. Luckily this doesn’t have to be done in one game, you can complete the Challenge of Elders multiple times within the week time-limit and have the scores add up. But remember, you must actually complete the Challenge for the points to count, so it’s still difficult no matter how you put it.

Points are earned by completing certain actions during the Challenge. Here’s how many points you earn for each thing you can do while playing:

  • Kill = 25
  • Melle Kill = 35
  • Grenade Kill = 40
  • Precision Kill = 45
  • Super Kill = 50
  • Assist = 25
  • Generate Orbs = 20
  • Ultra Kill = 500

You can also lose points while playing. After five minutes have passed during a round, Variks will start deducting 50 points every 45 seconds until the boss of the round is dead. So you can farm a bit, but don’t stay in there too long.

The Third Element

destiny

(Equip a fully leveled Year Two subclass on any character.)

When The Taken King released back in late 2015, it finally expanded on the three Destiny classes. After an entire year of waiting the Warlock, Hunter, and Titan received new subclasses in the form of the Stormcaller, Nightstalker, and Sunbreaker respectively. Each added the missing burn element that was available to the other two classes and, with a stronger focus on teamwork, changed how the game was played. In order to earn this Triumph for Destiny Year Two, you’ll have to max out any of these three subclasses.

Unlike the other subclasses in Destiny, players had to complete a quest to unlock the new ones. Each one provided a bit of lore into the new powers and let you try them out in style, showing off the destructive force being bestowed upon you. the first part of acquiring this Triumph is choosing which subclass you want and completing the quest. To help you out, here’s how to complete the Titan, Hunter, and Warlock subclass quests.

Once you’ve unlocked one, simply use it until it’s maxed out. Complete quests, bounties, and challenges for the biggest boosts to your XP. You can even use the one Shard of Light every player is granted at the beginning of The Taken King to give yourself a head start.
