Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was released late last month and sees the original three Crash Bandicoot games remade and remastered for the PlayStation 4. It seems PlayStation gamers were eager to see Crash return to the gaming world as the trilogy was very well received by both gamers and critics and has seen strong sales.
Whilst we’ve been enjoying having the crazy marsupial back in our lives, some gamers have found the game to be quite challenging and others have noticed the controls aren’t quite the same as they used to be. In a blog post by developer Vicarious Visions’ editorial manager Kevin Kelly, both the difficulty and the controls were addressed.
Writing about how Crash handles, Kelly wrote: “Many fans have picked up on the fact that Crash’s jump isn’t quite the same as it was, particularly in the first game, Crash Bandicoot. We carefully considered the choice to unify the design of these games, for example, how save and bonus rounds work, so that players could have a cohesive experience across all three games in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.
“The reason for that is because we want the best experience for all players, and Crash’s handling falls into this category. We spent a lot of time studying the three titles and chose the handling from Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped as our Trilogy’s starting point; it represented the most improved and modern approach as it gives players the most control.”
He went on to write that the gameplay has been tuned so that some jumps and enemies require more precision to overcome when compared to the original. DDA (dynamic difficulty adjustment) has been added to the second and third games but not the first. This means that checkpoints and Aku-Aku masks will appear more frequently to those who are struggling. He then suggested that newer fans play the second and third games first and then come back to the first game after more practice.
There was no mention of any patch or update being released to change anything so it looks like players who are struggling will simply need to keep practicing if they want to get all the crystals!
