Wargroove – Feb. 1

xbox one, february 2019, wargroove

Yes, yes, we’re aware we’re a little late on this one, but the point still remains — you really shouldn’t miss out on Wargroove on your Xbox One. ‘But why?’ I hear you ask. Well, because it fills a little gap within the Xbox One’s library. There are few turn-based strategy games on the Xbox One right now, and Wargroove is an excellent example of the genre.

Not only does it have a story mode to occupy you for hours, but it’s also got local and online co-op modes, a map editor mode that enables you to share your creations and download others from the community, and a Puzzle mode to boot.

Simply put, there’s an absolute ton of content in Wargroove, and it’s all wrapped up in a charming retro art style. If you’ve ever wanted Nintendo’s Advance Wars series on your Xbox One, well, this is the closest you’re going to get.

Crackdown 3 – Feb. 15

crackdown 3, xbox one, february 2019

It feels like it’s been years since Crackdown 3 was first announced. Wait, that’s because it was literally over four years since Microsoft announced it. But huzzah, it’s finally here, complete with Terry Crews voicing the protagonist, and the all-exciting multiplayer destruction mode.

For those unfamiliar with the Crackdown series, let us give you a quick sales pitch. It involves you controlling a superhero-esque police agent as you go about taking down crime organizations littered across an open world.

As you progress, you level up your powers until you’re literally jumping off the ground to the tops of skyscrapers and running as fast as cars. It’s great.

Further, Crackdown 3’s set to add in a multiplayer mode to show off what the “power of the cloud” can do. Microsoft Azure will power the Crackdown 3 multiplayer engine, and allow for full-scale destruction across the entire city.

We’re pretty excited to dive straight into the multiplayer carnage, but as long as the campaign holds up, Crackdown 3 looks like the bombastic action that Xbox One fans have been waiting for. Though, we will say we’re a little concerned at how quiet Crackdown 3’s marketing is just over a week from launch.

Far Cry New Dawn – Feb. 15

Far Cry New Dawn

Following on from 2018’s excursion to Hope County, Montana in Far Cry 5, Ubisoft is giving us a second outing to the locale once again in Far Cry New Dawn. The difference is, this time you’re returning 17 years after the events of Far Cry 5 and the nuclear events that we appeared to see at the end of our last visit.

Players will join forces with New Eden on a quest against a gang known as the Highwaymen, a more imminent threat than those you decide to help. We’re also likely to find out what happened to the Deputy and Joseph Seed following the events of Far Cry 5’s ending, which has us particularly excited.

Of course, with this being set in a post-apocalyptic world, new sections of the map are available and there are weapons called things like the ‘Saw Launcher’ that fires circular saw blades. Like you need any more convincing!

Metro Exodus – Feb. 15

Metro Exodus

For you Xbox One X owners out there, there’s no other game this month that’s set to look quite as stunning as Metro Exodus. Having already shown off its fancy visuals on-stage at Microsoft’s E3 in 2017, the game still looks fantastic just a week or two off its release.

Rather than keeping you within the confines of Russia, Metro Exodus sends you on a mission across continents as you lead a group of Spartan Rangers to find a new life somewhere away from the civil-war ridden tunnels of the Metro.

Aside from its flashy visuals, Metro Exodus also looks set to continue the series’ trend of tight first-person shooter combat, and an engaging storyline inspired by the book series by Dmitry Glukhovsky.

Plus, Exodus looks to implement a decision system, whereby your choices along the way will determine who out of your squad makes it to the end of the adventure. And yes, sadly, this is the third game on our list releasing on this day in February.

Anthem – Feb. 22

Anthem

BioWare may not have delivered with Mass Effect Andromeda, but if the gameplay we’ve seen of Anthem is anything to go by, the studio may be back on track for more exciting sci-fi adventures.

Anthem allows players to embark on missions in up to teams of four, with each player’s choice of Javelin — their fancy flying suit — lending them different abilities and stats that benefit a particular playstyle.

As such, while you can certainly play Anthem on your own, this looks particularly great for those looking for a deep multiplayer title to hop into with friends.

The Javelin allows players to soar through the skies, land on the ground to take down some enemies, before diving into deep water without an issue. Essentially, Anthem looks to offer smooth, fast-paced, and diverse shooting action to help keep things fresh.

Anthem releases on Xbox One on Feb. 22.
