5 Bizarre Anime Titles That Prove We’ve Run Out of Show Names

After watching a decent amount of anime, you’ll inevitably come across some shows with titles that’ll make you do a double-take. Whether they’re incredibly long, funny, or just bizarre, there are plenty of examples of authors seemingly giving up when coming up with titles.

Here are five anime titles that you need to read to believe. Yes, they’re all real.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai is a romantic comedy with a bit of drama thrown in, but the title tells you absolutely nothing about what to expect in the anime in terms of plot or premise. But it does grab your attention by making you ask several questions.

Who is the rascal? Why doesn’t he dream of the bunny girl? Why is there even a bunny girl? Well, the rascal is Sakuta Azusagawa and he seems to be the only person who can see the bunny girl, Mai Sakurajima.

Being faced with this odd situation, Sakuta decides to help Mai get through the inexplicable phenomenon. And on top of that, Sakuta’s life gets even crazier when similarly odd events begin to happen to other people around him.

Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren’t They?

Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren’t They? is a bit more self-explanatory, and almost even relatable in a way. But this anime literally deals with children coming from another world, so there’s no deeper meaning there.

It’s an action-comedy isekai in which Izayoi Sakamaki, Asuka Kudou, and You Kasukabe get invited to a mysterious place called Little Garden.

All three protagonists are bored geniuses who have psychic abilities, and now they have to use them to take down a demon lord in another world by competing in dangerous games.

Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist

Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist is another long anime title, and this time, it explains the premise almost perfectly. But this anime is NSFW in every sense of the phrase.

In this ecchi comedy, Japan has outlawed anything and everything that could be considered obscene or lewd. The nation also monitors its citizens with devices placed around peoples’ necks that alert the authorities whenever someone does anything impure.

Tanukichi Okuma is the son of an infamous terrorist who openly fought against that suppression. And in this story, Tanukichi soon becomes part of a criminal organization that opposes the laws, led by his classmate Ayame Kajou.

I My Me! Strawberry Eggs

Now, this one is all over the place. I My Me! Strawberry Eggs doesn’t even make sense grammatically, so it had to make the list. This anime is a slice-of-life romantic comedy with one of the weirdest titles you’ll ever see. The story is fairly unexpected too.

Since the title is no help in explaining what the show is about, I’ll do my best here. It follows Amawa Hibiki, a man fresh out of college who studied to be an athletics teacher. He has no money to pay rent to his landlady, so he tries to get a job at a nearby school. However, the principal doesn’t hire men as teachers because of their lack of passion.

So, instead of applying anywhere else, Amawa dresses up as a woman with the help of his landlady in order to get the job. It isn’t difficult to imagine the comedic situations that arise as Amawa attempts to keep his identity hidden from the students, principal, and other staff while earning a living.

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo

This one really takes the cake — both in terms of wild anime titles and out-there plot. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is a sci-fi comedy that you truly need to see to believe. If the title for this anime didn’t confuse you, what you see in the show definitely will.

It’s set in a futuristic world in which a military organization called the Maruhage Empire is hell-bent on stealing every person’s hair. Yes, you read that correctly. But wait, it gets better. A man named Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo fights against this hair-stealing tyranny by using his nose hairs as a weapon.

The sheer audacity an author has to have to not only name their work Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, but also have that be the name of its main character, is truly unmatched.
