Back in September, I was fortunate enough to attend the Edmonton Comic Book Expo where I encountered indie developer Infinite Monkeys. At their booth, they were showing off an early build of the upcoming puzzle-platformer Life Goes On. Its premise is that you play as a knight traversing a stage to get to the treasure, but must sacrifice yourself for your replacement. As the bodies pile up, pathways open. It’s a clever twist on puzzle-platformers, and I recently played the demo in anticipation of the full game’s release on April 16th.
There’s actually not a lot to say that wasn’t said in my post from last year, although there are some notable differences now. First, the soundtrack is in place and it is outstanding. The music is beautiful and ambient sounds really add to an already great looking title.
The levels I played at the Edmonton Expo were pretty basic in terms of problem solving, but what’s available in the demo now reveals far more complex puzzles. One section in particular revolves rising and falling lava, and using precise timing to place dead knights in specific locations before all your plans burn up in a sea of molten rock. If this is the level of creativity early on, then I can’t wait to see what else they’ve got in store for this game.
Life Goes On will be $12.99, and it’s coming to Steam on April 16, 2014.
