Doom Eternal is fairly challenging on its own, but if you’re looking for an even harder playthrough, there’s the Extra Life Mode. It’s not readily apparent how you do so though, which is why we’re here with a guide on how to play extra life mode in Doom Eternal.
Extra Life Mode in Doom Eternal
When you start a new game of Doom Eternal, you’ll be brought to the difficulty setting screen. At the bottom of the screen will be the Extra Life Mode option, which when selected will bring up a new array of difficulty options.
This is because Extra Life Mode isn’t a difficulty setting itself. Instead, it’s more like a mod that adds a lives mechanic to the game, wherein you’ll need to amass as many extra lives as you can for use whenever you die. They’re scattered throughout the map and are pretty easy to spot.
So long as you keep a decent stockpile of lives, the game will be largely the same as it would be if you played it without the mode active.
However, should you burn through all of your lives, then the game will be over. All of your current progress will be deleted, and you’ll need to restart the campaign from scratch.
If this is what you want your Doom Eternal experience to be like, then all you have to do is select it from the main menu, select a difficulty setting, and then begin your game. Once you do, you’ll be playing with the mode active until you start a new campaign without selecting the mode.
And that’s all there is to it really. Hopefully this helped you to get your Extra Life Mode playthrough rolling, or at least gave you the information necessary to help you decipher what the mode entailed.
