Taking on the mass of Freakers in Days Gone is no easy feat. They’ll chase you down relentlessly and can take a fair amount of punishment before they drop. As such, you’ll want to have all manner of weapons and ammo types available to you. Here’s how to get all crossbow bolt types in Days Gone for the Variety is the Spice of Life trophy.
How to Get All Crossbow Bolt Types in Days Gone
You’ll pick up the crossbow fairly early on in Days Gone, but you’ll be limited to just your run-of-the-mill bolt. It’s effective, particularly when you nail a headshot, and it’s a great stealth weapon, but sometimes you just want something a little more… exciting than a standard bolt.
That’s where the various crossbow bolt types in Days Gone can help to mix things up a bit. Alas, you’ll need to put some work in in order to get your hands on them.
In total, there are four additional crossbow bolt types to unlock in Days Gone, and we’ve listed these, along with how to unlock them, down below.
- Residue Bolt: Continue playing through Days Gone’s story. Upon completing the mission ‘They’re Not Sleeping,’ you’ll unlock the Residue Bolt.
- Poison Bolt: Continue playing through the story to unlock the Poison Bolt. This is unlocked upon completing the ‘I’ve got a Plan’ mission.
- Incendiary Bolt: For this one, you’ll need to spend some time clearing out the various Ambush Camps in the game. There are 14 in total, and you’ll need to clear eight Ambush Camps in order to unlock the Incendiary Bolt in Days Gone.

How to Get Variety Is the Spice of Life Trophy in Days Gone
Now that you know how to get all of the various crossbow bolt types in Days Gone, it’s now simply a case of using each one and killing an enemy with each different type. Again, we’d advise aiming for the head regardless of what bolt type you’re using.
This is simply because of the age-old saying with zombies “aim for the head.” One shot’s usually enough to put ’em down for good. Plus, if they don’t drop the first time, just continue to pepper them with the same bolt type until they do drop.
