Take Your Anime War on the Go with the Valkyria Chronicles Switch Sale

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

If you’re looking for a tactical game on the Nintendo Switch, your pickings are slim. However, thanks to Sega’s latest sale, you can easily afford some of the console’s better offerings: Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4.

In case you never heard of the Valkyria Chronicles series, it is a military-themed RPG franchise that is two parts tactical combat (think Fire Emblem but with guns instead of swords) and one part FPS. The franchise takes place in the fictional continent of Europa, which is obviously based on Europe, during what is essentially World War II but between the East Europan Imperial Alliance and the Atlantic Federation instead of the Axis and Allies. Take a wild guess who are the good guys and who are the bad guys in Valkyria Chronicles.

Even though the Valkyria Chronicles games use real world events as a skeleton, they aren’t one-to-one translations of WWII. Some characters have magic powers that transform them into one-woman armies, just in case you thought these games were going for a Call of Duty: The Anime vibe.

So, back to the matter at hand: the sale. Valkyria Chronicles 1 is currently $15 on the Nintendo eShop, and Valkyria Chronicles 4 is $30. Of course, this sale only applies to digital copies, so make sure you have enough space on your Nintendo Switch first.

If you’re wondering why the sale doesn’t apply to Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3, that’s because Valkyria Chronicles 2 is a PlayStation Portable exclusive, and Valkyria Chronicles 3 is a Japanese exclusive (as well as a PlayStation Portable exclusive to boot). So far, the first and fourth main entries in the franchise are the only ones available on the Nintendo Switch, let alone on a non-PlayStation console.

If you plan on picking up Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4 at low prices, you should hurry. The sale ends January 10th.
