Monolith Soft, the acclaimed developer for titles such as Xenoblade Chronicles, is recruiting for a new RPG project. The news came via a job listing on the developer’s website, which also featured a Xenoblade-esque picture.
Thanks to some translation skills from Gematsu, the advertisement appeared to be very broad:
The studio is seeking programmers (graphics programmers, character control programmers, and AI programmers), planners (level designers), technical artists (modeling TA, animation TA, and effects TA), designers (map modelers, in-game animators, character modelers, character designers for the artwork staff, and script event creators), and management and support staff (production assistants and event production management) to work on the RPG.
Whether this new project will be a sequel or a spin-off akin to X remains to be seen. Monolith Soft recently advertised for hiring for a new, action-orientated IP, but this was separate from the above project.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 enjoyed enormous success on the Nintendo Switch, culminating in the excellent DLC Torna – The Golden Age that released last month. Sales exceeded Monolith’s humble expectations, with the game becoming somewhat of a killer app for the Switch.
The fact that this advertisement specifically lists the genre as “RPG,” combined with the Xenoblade header it came with, strongly suggests that this project will be a new mainline Xenoblade title. Rumors have circulated for a while regarding a port of Xenoblade Chronicles X to the Switch, but a new mainline title this early would be a surprise for anyone.
Either way, the Nintendo Switch is quickly becoming a console that keeps on giving.
