Since its release, the free-to-play mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery has caught a bit of flak for pushing a paywall onto players early on in the game. Perhaps as a response to the backlash, it looks like the Energy (the premium currency for the mobile game) prices have been heavily discounted. However, the discounted prices don’t seem to be applying to everyone.
As reported by Eurogamer, some players were able to purchase 130 gems at 99p, with the original pricing set at £4.99. However, others reported being able to buy the gems at 89p, after the price was slashed from £2.99.
Similarly, players in the US have also reported being able to get the gems at a discounted price, while others say they haven’t seen any such offers. It’s entirely possible that the developers are still working out the optimal prices for the gems.
You can play through the game without paying any money at all, but you will have to wait a few hours in order for your Energy to recharge so you can progress.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is now available on iOS and Android devices.
