Epic detailed the latest changes for its Battle Royale mode of Fortnite, all focused on building structures faster and with less restrictions.

In a blog post, the studio discussed building improvements coming in the v.3.0.0 patch. The first new feature is “turbo building,” which allows players to simply hold down the primary fire button and continue building the same piece. Epic describes it as “painting” the pieces, and should prove useful for constructing ramps or makeshift cover from all sides.

The other feature is called “auto-change materials,” and will automatically switch to another material when one runs out. Both features can be separately toggled on or off in the Game options menu. Epic is also changing how building pieces works with the environment around players.

“Currently, smaller objects like furniture and shrubs are destroyed when you build over them, but trees, rocks and vehicles can still get in the way,” Epic wrote. “We’ve changed the building system to allow you to place structures right through large objects, meaning you can now build pretty much anywhere at anytime!”

The studio did note that built structures must still be supported. For example, sky ramps that passes through an object can still fall if the connection to the floor has been severed. Check out the new features in the video below.

The last change Epic is making towards faster building is improving Fortnite’s network code so switching between pieces happens within the game, and will not require Epic’s servers to respond to each action. This lag fix will appear in the Battle Royale mode first, but is currently being worked on for the Save the World PvE mode.

Fortnite: Battle Royale’s Season 3 begins tomorrow, Feb. 22, and brings a new Battle Pass to be completed. The new pass offers 76 new cosmetic items and 30 more levels than the Season 2 pass for 950 V-Bucks, or about $10.
