Star Wars: Battlefront II Progression System Tweaked According to Fan Feedback

More weight is given to playtime and ranking, but Crates are here to stay.

Electronic Arts appears to have listened to fans’ feedback following the Star Wars: Battlefront II Beta. As yesterday’s blog post reads, crates and progression systems were altered to make the game more balanced.

The Star Cards mechanic was reconstructed the most. Epic Star Cards, the most powerful tier in the array, will not appear in loot boxes. Instead, players will have to put effort into crafting to obtain these. Essentially, this means extended playtime as well, as crafting ability upgrades are now pegged to your rank. That said, people who pre-ordered the game or purchased either the deluxe or the starter pack will still receive Epic Cards as a bonus.

Class-specific weapons will also be primarily unlocked through play as a certain class. Same goes for the gear, with a reservation that it is only handed out via Crates. This part of the update also mentions milestones, but it is not specified if these are a new mechanic akin to Hutt Contracts or simply achievements based on your rank and completed events in multiplayer.

However, EA does not deny that microtransactions will have an impact on gameplay. During the earnings call that took place this Monday, the company’s CEO Andrew Wilson stated that, while key progression elements can be earned by playing the game, ”there will be an opportunity for players who come in to also enhance and extend their experience through the ongoing digital economy.”

Star Wars: Battlefront II will be released on Nov. 17 on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One. Previously, EA marked the directions of progress system developments earlier this October. The publisher also implied plans to make the Strike mode “best-of-three” and tweak the First Order Flametrooper and the Specialist’s infiltration ability. None of these were addressed in the latest adjustments.
