Arkane Studios is nearly ready to unleash their re-imagining of the Prey name onto the world, which means it’s time to talk about its system of choice. We recently got a chance to talk to lead designer Ricardo Bare about Prey’s multiple endings, and how players will influence the plot of the game.
“Without giving you spoilers, I would describe the endings as essentially two main branches,” Bare said. “You’re gonna be making some pretty big decisions about the space station and the people aboard the space station. But then within those main branches, there are tons of permutations, and a lot of it has to do with what you did and how you treated survivors that you encounter.”
Permutation is sort of the name of the game for Arkane here, with Prey featuring a massive open environment and tons of choices. Will you choose to sift through employee emails and strewn about texts? Will you fortify protagonist Morgan with superhuman strength, or hacking abilities? Should you take the suspicious elevator up to your objective, or try a spacewalk approach? The experience is largely unscripted, and filled with decisions like these.
Prey is set to release May 5, 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
