When the opponents have the ball in their possession, it is imperative for you to win it back as soon as possible. You can do this in Mario Strikers: Battle League in two ways – a normal tackle and a charged tackle.

Tackle

To tackle an opponent with a regular tackle, simply aim in their direction and press the Y button. This will cause your character to reach out and attempt to wrestle the ball away from your opponent. However, it is important to note that size and strength do matter, so if your character is small, like Toad, it will be impossible to get the ball off someone like Bowser. To do that, you will need a Charged Tackle.

Charged Tackle

For the best chance at grabbing the ball and leaving your opponent incapacitated for a longer time, use a Charged Tackle. Start by holding Y, and watch as the meter below your feet starts charging up, once it is at the max, you can let go of Y and send your player in the aimed direction for a Charged Tackle.

This will allow all characters to perform their defensive duties diligently, regardless of size. Just make sure you don’t miss, otherwise, the opposing team might just have a free run at goal. Learning to cancel out of a Charged Tackle will be helpful while using certain items can help as well.

Ensure that the ball is always with you, and you will find games much easier to win, especially if you have mastered the Hyper Strike.
