Department of Damage Control
It turns out that Peter isn’t talking to any ordinary police officers in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer scene where he’s handcuffed to a desk and talking about how he didn’t kill Mysterio. The man who makes a comment about the drones from Far From Home is actually with the Department of Damage Control, not the police. A “DODC” patch can be seen on his jacket.
The Department of Damage Control was seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming during one of the very first scenes. They speak to Adrian Toomes (AKA The Vulture) as he’s trying to salvage parts in the aftermath of the New York battle from the first Avengers movie.
The DODC is an organization that was originally created by S.H.I.E.L.D. that cleans up after superhero fights to remove dangerous artifacts. However, they may not be too pleased that Peter’s identity is all out in the open after he seemingly killed Mysterio with Stark technology in the previous movie.
One More Day Plotline
The spell that Peter asks Doctor Strange to cast in order to regain his secret identity is reminiscent of the Spider-Man: One More Day plotline in the comics. In One More Day, after asking Doctor Strange for help, Peter makes a deal with the demon Mephisto to bring Aunt May back to life in exchange for his marriage to Mary Jane, making it so they had never been married.
It’s certainly not the best Spider-Man comic plotline out there, but it feels similar in that MCU Peter will need to sacrifice his current relationships with MJ, Ned, and other characters while using magic to get what he wants. Though, instead of Mephisto, Doctor Strange is the one performing the magic here in the trailer.
Peter also meets alternate versions of himself in One More Day, which seems to be exactly what’ll happen in No Way Home after all the confirmed crossovers from the Raimi trilogy and the Amazing Spider-Man movies.
The Black and Gold Suit
It’s brief, but the trailer does flash to a scene of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker running through a building in a black suit without a mask on. And it’s not the same one that made people call him Night Monkey in Far From Home, either.
It’s likely the new black and gold suit that’s been teased several times in toy promos. But if we really want to get crazy with theories, it could also be a symbiote-like suit similar to the one that Toby Maguire’s Peter had on in Spider-Man 3. There’s also a different shot (pictured above) later on that shows another black suit, seemingly without any gold on it.
It’s hard to tell, but that’s a much more fun theory to go with and it wouldn’t be completely impossible since Raimi trilogy villains are in the movie. Who’s to say that Topher Grace’s Venom, or at least the symbiote, can’t show up too? We might even get to see some meme-worthy dance moves from Holland if that’s the case.
The Sinister Six
This one isn’t much of a surprise, but it’s looking like the Sinister Six will be the main villains of Spider-Man: No Way Home — or at the very least, there could be a setup for a sequel movie where they are. The original members of the Sinister Six in the comics are Doctor Octopus, Electro, Vulture, Mysterio, Sandman, and Kraven the Hunter.
Since this movie is clearly a crossover thanks to multiverse shenanigans, five of the six original members are available to use. And other versions of the group have swapped out Kraven for Green Goblin, so that works perfectly here.
Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus is straight up on-screen at the end of this trailer, while Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin can be heard when his pumpkin bomb rolls down a busy street and explodes.
There’s some yellow lightning in two separate shots as well, and all signs point to Electro even though Jamie Foxx had Electro’s blue look in Amazing Spider-Man 2. That yellow lightning seems to be surrounded by a ton of sand at one point too, and you can guess what that means if we’re right. And finally, Mysterio and Vulture feel like a given since they’re already in the MCU to begin with. Vulture is alive and kicking and Mysterio is a master of illusions, so it’s highly unlikely that he’s actually dead.
