NieR Replicant Players Notice an Interesting Text Language Detail

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… has been out for a little under a week now, and fans are loving the detail and significant updates that the remaster has received, as it does everything from adding in voiced lines of dialogue to even changing protagonists. One subtle change that players might not have noticed occurs when the game asks you to select a text language.

Depending on what option you choose, NieR Replicant displays will change what tower players see in the Prologue of the game. For example, if you choose French, you’ll see the Eiffel Tower. You can see the full set of photos, their differences, and which languages correspond to them below.

Japanese and ES/IT/ZH/KR: Tokyo Tower
Nier Replicant
French: The Eiffel Tower
Nier Replicant
English: Big Ben
Nier Replicant
German: Berliner Fernsehturm/Berlin TV Tower

This fun little feature was posted to the NieR subreddit earlier today by dottoysm, who also credited users Dr_Mint33 and Baerius_R for pointing them in the direction of the source material that gave them the following information:

So the history of this is that for the original Nier, which was localised into French and German as well as English, they decided to change the tower in the prologue depending on the region. While they didn’t add any new ones, they did bring them over and you can access them if you change the text language on any version. Apparently the US used to have the Empire State Building, but it seems that now it’s Big Ben anywhere.

Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139… is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows. For more information, be sure to check out our official review.
