Assassin's Creed Valhalla, how to beat Leofrith

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: How to Beat Leofrith

Throughout Valhalla’s story, there are several climactic boss fights that can prove rather tricky with the wrong tactics employed. They also often conclude with the chance to either execute or spare the enemy’s life with different consequences depending on your choice. Here’s how to beat Leofrith in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and whether you should kill or spare him afterwards.

How to Beat Leofrith in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Leofrith is a bit of a step up from the boss encounters you’re likely to have faced so far in Valhalla, which is why you’ll want to come prepared. Make sure you have your health at full and your healing capacity at maximum, if possible, before entering the arena where he’s located.

It also helps to have some arrows so you can chip away at him from distance. In fact, if you lure Leofrith underneath the hanging crate which dangles above the area you’re fighting him, a single arrow to break the rope will end the battle immediately.

If that’s not an option for you, consider a parry-heavy strategy using your shield to beat Leofrith. Using parry quickly depletes Leofrith’s stamina, and once you’ve completely whittled it away you can then stun-attack him for massive damage. Remember, only his standard and yellow attacks can be parried.

If you prefer to lean on the dodge mechanic, I recommend using either a dagger weapon or single-handed axe as your primary weapon since all boss fights in Valhalla are easier when you use speed instead of power. Using quick weapons also charges your Adrenaline meter faster, allowing you to pop off with abilities.

As with any boss encounter, it pays to learn Leofrith’s attack patterns. He has two different phases, both of which involve parriable yellow attacks and unparriable red attacks (which you’ll need to dodge). He also tries to bait you into attacking him with a blue icon that randomly pops above his head; when you see this, beware — he’s getting ready to rush you and unleash a red attack.

My preferred strategy is to just dodge when Leofrith attacks, then quickly hit him with a dagger or seax, then dodge away. This won’t work with a flail or any heavy weapon because he’ll just move out the way, but the dagger’s speed is really effective at hitting him just after his own attack animation finishes.

Should You Kill or Spare Leofrith

After Leofrith is defeated, you can either spare him or kill him. Choosing the latter option doesn’t really affect the storyline in a negative way, but by sparing him you’ll be given a scroll that has been sent to all the Zealots across England. This scroll turns out to be an attack order that instructs all Zealots to kill Eivor on-sight. With the scroll in your possession, you can then have it destroyed and stop Zealots from attacking you.

That should give you a solid overview of how to beat Leofrith in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. For more useful tips and guides on the game, be sure to check out Twinfinite’s extensive wiki. And if you haven’t already, then please read our glowing review of the game here.
