How to Scan Environments in Cyberpunk 2077

Made available to you early on in Cyberpunk 2077, scanning the environment is easy to do and integral to many aspects of the game.

All you have to do is press and hold L1 on PlayStation consoles or LB on Xbox consoles. Doing so will activate your character’s scanning mode, during which they’ll be able to gather data on nearby objects and NPCs, spot and tag hostiles, and even view hackable objects which can be used to influence the wider environment.

There’s no limit to how often you can scan areas aside from some scripted moments that disable it either, so you can count on being able to use this mechanic throughout the duration of your playtime.

When the Best Times to Scan Environments Are

Of course, there are moments that are better than others to scan the environment in Cyberpunk 2077.

If you’re sneaking through an enemy base, scanning will be a must. It can reveal hidden loot, hackable items that can make combat easier, and allow you to tag enemies so you can better track their movement patterns.

Likewise, it’s highly advisable that you scan more confined or crowded areas for points of interest. Doing so can help you spot items or objects that would normally be hard to miss, and can help you find things that could be essential to your survival or the progression of certain quests.
