How to Melee in Cyberpunk 2077
There are a few different ways to execute a melee attack in Cyberpunk 2077, and which methods you can utilize depend on the type of weapons you currently have equipped.
If you have a gun or projectile-based weapon equipped, then you can only perform a quick melee attack by pressing the R3 button on PlayStation consoles and RS on Xbox consoles.
Though this won’t deal much damage, it’s great for disorienting an opponent when you need to reload your weapon, or when you need to finish off a weak opponent without wasting rounds of ammunition.
On the other hand, if you have a melee weapon equipped, then you can perform three different types of melee attacks. The first is the one mentioned above, and acts in much the same way.
The second is a Fast Attack, and can be triggered by pressing the R2 or RT button. This is your standard melee weapon attack, and allows you to deal a decent amount of damage with a short cooldown between hits.
Then, there’s the Strong Attack. Executed by pressing R1 or RB, this attack deals heavy damage to opponents in exchange for a longer windup and cooldown between attacks.
As for when the best times are to use melee attacks in Cyberpunk 2077, it depends on your character build.
If you’re upgrading your character to be melee-focused, then you can feel free to use these attacks as your primary combat approach. The game is designed in a way that most every combat situation can be dealt with through whichever means the player feels most comfortable with.
However, if you’re upgrading your character to be proficient with firearms, then you need to be more selective about using melee attacks. As mentioned above, the Quick attack is best used as a way to throw off opponents’ attacks or to finish them off when they’re weak.
Avoid relying on it to deal damage unless absolutely necessary, and save it for when an enemy gets in close with a heavier attack.
