Which Race Should You Choose in Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning? Answered

To put it plainly, there isn’t a best Race in Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning. Instead, each Race has advantages that are tooled to certain playstyles and are equally useful as a result.

The Almain’s boosts are great if you prefer to play as a charismatic warrior, with buffs to your Blacksmithing, Persuasion and Alchemy. The Varani, meanwhile, are great for playing a pure rogue thanks to their Lockpicking, Detect Hidden and Mercantile buffs.

The Ljosalfar are ideal for mage lovers thanks to their Sagecraft, Dispelling and Alchemy buffs, and the Dokkalfar’s Stealth, Sagecraft and Persuasion boosts make them great for a blend of stealth and magic classes.

In turn, each race will be lacking in certain stat buffs to make up for their advantages. Almains and Varani will have a tougher go getting into Sorcery, while the Ljosalfar and Dokkalfar will take more time to mold into Might-focused characters.

Consider these elements when choosing your character’s Race, and with any luck you should land on the one that’ll ensure a smooth and enjoyable playthrough for you.

How to Respec Your Character’s Skill Points

It should be noted, however, that which Race you choose in Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning won’t have much bearing once you gain the ability to respec your stats.

After reaching the House of Ballads found to the Northeast of Gorhart, you’ll be able to respec your character by speaking to the NPC named Arvia and spending a small sum of Gold; usually one or two thousand, with the price increasing as you reach a higher level. This will allow you to reallocate every Skill Point applied to your character, including those given to you through Race bonuses.

This makes whatever bonuses you gained from your initial Race choice moot, as you can essentially rework your stats to be buffed in whatever way you like.

It can be a little deflating if you were hoping there would be some lasting weight to your first few choices in the game, but this also means you won’t have to worry about being forced into a corner due to an uninformed choice.

Hopefully this cleared up whether there’s a best Race in Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning. For more on the game, check out our guides on other hot topics like how to solve the Brazier puzzle and who to give the Eye of Amman Amulet to.
