Genshin Impact: How to Save Your Game & Can You Manual Save?

Genshin Impact has arrived on PC, Switch, PS4 and mobile devices, and allows players to explore a beautifully cel-shaded world as they go in search of their long-lost sibling. Of course, with this being such a huge, free-to-play online game, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll complete the game and do all there is to do in one single sitting. In this guide, we’ll talk you through how to save in Genshin Impact.

How to Save Your Game in Genshin Impact

Cutting right to the chase, Genshin Impact uses an auto-save feature. This is because the game is permanently connected to online servers. As you’re in this persistent world with other players, the game ensures that your progress is always recorded whenever anything happens.

This has likely been implemented because of the game’s ‘Gacha’ mechanics for unlocking characters. Characters you get and unlock as you progress through the game will be randomized, and so this save method prevents players from rerolling.

Can You Manually Save Your Game?

The short answer is no, you cannot. There’s no option to manually save your game to prevent players from saving before they unlock a character, and then quitting out and loading up their save to ‘reroll’ that character if they don’t get the one they want.

That being said, you don’t have to worry about losing your progress in Genshin Impact just because you cannot manually save the game yourself.

The game’s always permanently saving and keeping your progress recorded, with this being a live game that’s permanently connected to the servers. As such, when you’re ready to quit Genshin Impact, simply exit out of the game and your progress will be recorded.
