Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Build Bridges

For you and your anamorphic buddies to move around the island quickly and efficiently, bridges are going to have to be built. More than just looking cool, the infrastructure allows you to access areas of the island you wouldn’t otherwise be able to. Here we’ll provide a step-by-step on how to build bridges in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Building Bridges in Animal Crossing New Horizons

To build a bridge you’ll need to visit the Resident Services and plan out your building project with Tom Nook. This needs to be the upgraded Resident Service (not the small tent), which you’ll only have after Isabelle arrives on the island and involves building a museum and Nook’s Cranny, as well as inviting three new residents to join the island.

Once you’ve ticked that off and have your upgraded Resident Service, you can speak with Tom Nook and build things. For bridges, select the “Let’s talk infrastructure” option. You’ll then be presented with a number of different bridge options (wood, brick, iron, suspension, etc), which range in specification and price. So choose your bridge type and then place the tent that Tom Nook gives you where you want it to be built. A construction area will then be established.

With the construction area established, you’ll now have to donate Bells to fund the project’s completion. This is done by speaking with the worker beside the bridge and paying the desired amount.

Note that other residents will contribute to the bridge’s construction but typically not in substantial enough amounts to really help much. If you need help raising funds then check out our guide on planting money trees.

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the process:

Time needed: 10 minutes

  1. Upgrade your Resident Service building

  2. Enter the building and speak with Tom Nook, select the “Let’s talk infrastructure” option.

  3. Select Bridges and choose which one you’d like to build.

  4. Take the tent Tom Nook gives you and place at the spot you want the bridge to be built.

  5. Fund the project with Bells until you have reached the total.

How to Delete & Remove Bridges

If you’re not happy with a bridge that you’ve built then you can always delete it. This is done by once again visiting Tom Nook and talking about infrastructure in the same way but this time selecting the option to “demolish something.”
