A Friendly Reminder That Blasphemous Will Soon Receive Free DLC

2020 barely just started, but The Game Kitchen has already given us a reason to be excited about the new year with free DLC for Blasphemous.

In case you missed a similar announcement at the tail end of 2019, the developers of Blasphemous —one of the better indie platformers of 2019 and currently discounted on multiple platforms— want to remind audiences that the Penitent One’s adventures are far from over. While the studio is trying to be (almost) as silent as the game’s protagonist regarding the DLC’s contents, The Game Kitchen has provided yet another piece of art that hints at things to come.

The first Twitter announcement included a man (or woman?) with a golden skull for a face and equally golden hair, and the latest teaser features the Penitent One standing in front of a mirror flanked by statues of crying women.

What does this mean? Will the Penitent One step into a mirror world that is even more twisted than the one where he currently resides? Will the Blasphemous DLC be nothing more than a challenge mode? Will players get to fight a mirror reflection Penitent One boss?

We don’t know. All we do know is that the DLC is coming soon, which could mean a few months or tomorrow. And, the DLC will include new executions; if you ever wanted to give those annoying floating bishops a taste of their own medicine (and spears), you can do so in the DLC.

Needless to say, I am excited. Blasphemous is excellent, give or take a few issues that have been ironed out with patches, and is worthy of your time with or without DLC. However, the free DLC is yet another reason to play the game in 2020 if you haven’t already.
