Modern Warfare’s Realism Mode Has Been Removed & Fans Aren’t Pleased

Following the latest update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, fans of the game noticed the popular ‘Realism’ multiplayer mode had been removed, and they’re not best pleased.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, Infinity Ward rolled out the 1.06 patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The developers added ‘NVG’ as a new playlist to the game. This saw the divisive nighttime maps make a return to the game, after they were removed on launch day due to unknown reasons.

As Infinity Ward giveth, though, they also taketh away. As part of Modern Warfare’s 1.06 patch, the multiplayer ‘Realism’ playlist was removed entirely. This mode gave players no HUD, standard health, and made headshots a one-hit-kill.

Instead, Infinity Ward has put the ‘Realism’ ruleset into the new ‘NVG’ playlist. In doing so, however, its forced all those who want to play this more ‘hardcore’ mode to play it on the night maps, which have been fairly divisive.

Players have already taken to the r/modernwarfare subreddit to complain about the removal of the mode, as well as the official Call of Duty forums and message boards.

Infinity Ward’s decision is a little odd. Realism mode had already been touted as one of the most enjoyable playlists in the game’s multiplayer Suite, while the night vision maps haven’t had the same overwhelmingly positive response. While the ‘Hardcore’ modes in the game can offer a similar experience, it’s not the exact same.

It’s currently unclear whether or not Modern Warfare’s Realism playlist will return to the game, or whether those wanting to play with this ruleset will be forced to play on the night time maps for good from now on. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as and when the story develops.
