The Sea of Sorrow level in Super Mario Maker 2 can be tricky to complete, as most underwater levels in Mario can be. Completing this level in the story mode will unlock an extraordinary hat for your Mii Maker avatar. Here’s a guide for the Sea of Sorrow Level in Super Mario Maker 2.
Sea of Sorrow Level Guide for Super Mario Maker 2
The level opens up with a circle of massive Boos around two doors. One of these doors requires a key, which can only be obtained from defeating all of the Boos rotating around the door.
In order to do this, you will need to enter the unlocked green dor, grab the boot found on the other side and then bring it back to the start of the level to hope on them.
After you get the key and unlock the door, you’ll need to head upwards. There will be a few Thwomps that need to be baited right and left to create space for you the swim up.
Make sure you don’t lose the boot because you’ll need it for future parts of the level. In case you do lose the boot, there will be a spare at the top of the Thwomp hallway.
Once at the top, go left through the on/off blocks, this is where it gets a bit tricky. You’re going to need to obtain the beetle helmet by swimming underneath the donut block. This will put the helmet on Mario and allow him to move Thwomps he can get underneath.
Now head back through the on/off blocks you entered the area from and return with the helmet to the base of the Thwomp hallway. Get underneath the first Thwomp in the area and bump it upwards until it lands on a ledge at the top.
This will set it up so that you can bait it to the right to break the set of green blocks blocking your passage to continue the level.
Once the Thwomp breaks the blocks follow the arrows which will lead you to a fire stick with an on/off block underneath. Hit it and follow the path to get underneath the giant munchers.
This will give a path to the green door, which leads to the checkpoint for the level. In this room, you’ll need to break the middle block and let the Muncher fall on the spring below. You can use this as a platform to get into the floating green door in this room.
Now get into the clown car and blast the rocks to your left. Hit the on/off switch and descend below past one more set of rotating Boos. From there, break the blocks on the top of the flagpole and finish the level.
