Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV Players Can Get a Black Fat Chocobo Mount by Eating Fried Chicken in Japan

Remember the Final Fantasy XIV-branded fried chicken that is coming soon in Japan? There is more to the story.

Today Square Enix followed up with an additional press release giving further details. The “Limit Break Flavor” variety Karaage-Kun fried chicken will be available at most Lawson convenience stores from Jan. 22 to Feb 4, and one piece of delicious deep fried meat every 700 will be branded with Final Fantasy XIV’s iconic meteor logo. You can see what it looks like in the gallery below.

Yet, that’s not all. Every time you purchase the appropriate chicken, the cash register will play a Final Fantasy XIV jingle. On top of that, a dedicated broadcast with the voice of voice actress Yoshino Nanjou (who plays Krile and Suzaku in the game) will be played periodically in the stores.

Perhaps juicier is the campaign that will run in the same period in which the chicken is sold. Customers will be able to accumulate points on their Lawson Ponta card every time they make a purchase of select products. Four different Wilkinson soft drinks and Wonda Morning Shot coffee will provide a point while the Limit Break Flavor Karaage-Kun will provide two points. When you get eighteen points you can get a code for the mount.

You can see what it looks like below. This probably isn’t the most healthy marketing initiative ever, but what wouldn’t people do for a vanity mount?

Incidentally, we still don’t know if players from North America and Europe will be given a chance to get the mount as well in some way.

If you want to know more about Final Fantasy XIV, you can check out the latest trailer for update 4.5  which has just been released. If you’re interested in another thing that Japanese fans get and we don’t, you can read about the themed weddings that will be available soon at a wedding hall in Kobe.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PS4 and PC.
