Fallout 76: How to Trade With Players

How to Trade With Players in Fallout 76

Recommended Videos

Fallout 76 might not be the massive, open world, single-player experience we were all expecting, but it does retain some familiar elements. For instance, bartering is still a key part of the game, especially if you want to survive in the scary wasteland. This time around, you’ll get to trade items with other players online as well. Here’s what you need to know about how to trade with players in Fallout 76.

Trading With Friends in Fallout 76

  • Walk up to another player.
  • How to trade in Fallout 76 on PS4 – Hold down the triangle button while looking at the other player.
  • How to trade in Fallout 76 on Xbox One – Hold down the Y button, instead.
  • Have them accept the request.

First off, the cool thing about Fallout 76 is that you can trade with basically anyone you encounter in the game; they don’t have to be on your friends list. To do this, simply walk up to another player and hold down the triangle button (or Y button if you’re on Xbox One) to initiate the process. The other player will then have to hold down the button as well to accept the request.

Once you do this, you’ll see the inventories of you and the other player in Fallout 76. You can then browse the other player’s inventory and select the items that you want from them by pressing the X button (or A button if you’re on Xbox One). In addition to that, you can also choose items from your own inventory, and offer them in exchange. You can exchange your items for caps by setting a price, or just barter by setting the price to zero and take whatever items they’re offering instead.

Once both players are happy with the items on offer, you can then initiate the process and exchange items.

On the other hand, if you want to help a friend out and just give them some free items to get them started, you can do that too. From this menu, just choose the items you want to give them, then set the cap price to zero so they can take it without any problems.

Aside from any key items you might pick up for quest progression, you can essentially any item in Fallout 76. You’ll be able to exchange armor, clothing, weapons, junk, and ammo.

Trading With NPCs in Fallout 76

Unfortunately, unlike in previous games in the series, you can’t sell items with NPCs in Fallout 76 because, well, there are no NPCs in the game. Aside from the robot vendors you’ll encounter along the way, there are no other human NPCs in Fallout 76’s wasteland, which means that there are no human shopkeepers to be found.

As you’re traveling through the wasteland, you might find vending machines that can sell resources. However, most of these machines only accept caps, and you can’t barter with them using items in your inventory. If you’re out of caps, your best bet is to barter with other players.

And that’s pretty much all you need to know about how to trade items with friends and other players in Fallout 76. Be sure to check our Fallout 76 guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
