Tips & Tricks for Beginners of Fortnite’s The Getaway High Stakes LTM
Communication Is Key
If there’s one thing we’ve already learned from jumping into Fortnite’s High Stakes game mode, it’s that communication is of paramount importance here. If you thought that playing Fortnite’s standard Squads was difficult without speaking to your teammates, this is on a whole other level.
Because High Stakes has a bit more going on than simply being the last team standing, you need to get a bit more tactical. You all want to land together, you want to call out enemies and stay alive, and you want to make sure you’re all running and gunning for the same vault to get that all-important jewel.
Things only get worse once you’ve got the jewel, with the carrier running 10 percent slower than usual, even if they do get a shield and health regen buff in the process.
Ensuring you’re communicating at all times in High Stakes means you can protect one another in times of dire need, or all wail on the jewel carrier on an opponent’s team all at once to stop them from getting away.
We strongly advise only playing The Getaway’s High Stakes mode with friends, or at least with people you can talk to easily on the mic. Otherwise, it’s just a recipe for disaster.

Don’t Land Near the Vault Landing Sites
While it may seem like the perfect plan to drop right by one of the vault landing sites, wait for it to drop, grab the jewel as soon as possible, and bolt before any other team’s even got close to you in The Getaway, that’s not going to work.
Currently, a lot of players are heading straight for the vault landing sites, making them a little trickier to just check out and get an idea of what they look like. However, remember that once you’re dead in The Getaway’s High Stakes mode, you’re dead. There are no respawns, and so it doesn’t pay to hop right into the firing zone until you’re well-equipped and ready to roll.
Instead, look for somewhere on the map fairly far away from the vault landing sites in The Getaway, where there’s likely enough chests and floor loot for you and your teammates to get yourself properly set up for battle. Stock up on plenty of heals, and have an assortment of weapons to help take down opponents at all different ranges.
Once you’re all equipped, shielded up, and ready to go, now’s the time to head to those vault landing sites. Just be prepared for a gunfight… or to be crept up on.

Ambushing Is an Option
There’s nothing in Fortnite’s The Getaway High Stakes rulebook that says you can’t play a little dirty. After all, why the heck would you want to drop into a massive battle and risk having your entire team wiped out when you can just wait for the perfect moment to ambush a weakened side?
You don’t always have to make your intentions, or your location, clear to your opponents. Try hiding somewhere inconspicuous nearby one of the vault landing spots in The Getaway, and wait for another team to arrive. You could even try and place some sneaky traps, too.
Especially in the later game, eliminating enemy teams will make your getaway all the easier, with fewer people trying to gun you down before you make your escape. See a team close to making it to the getaway vehicle? Start gunning down their structures as they try and reach the hovering getaway vehicle. Then, when they’re all in a panic, have your whole team focus on the jewel carrier, before shifting attention to their teammates. As long as the jewel stays within the playing area, it could be an easy win for you if you’re able to quickly wipe them out.

Mark Different Places of Interest to Make Navigation Easier
This might sound like a bit of an odd one, but if you’ve always got visible markers onscreen to guide you, or remind you of the locations of particular vault landing spots, or getaway vehicles, then you’ll know roughly where to find enemies, and where you generally want to be heading. Sure, there are markers on the mini-map and the larger map, but having to avert your gaze to check these out are seconds where you could be sniped or taken down by another team.
Communicate with your team and coordinate who will place their markers where. We suggest one or two on vault landing spots, and maybe one or two on getaway vehicle locations as soon as they appear onscreen.
