How to Get Vortex Cubes in No Man’s Sky & What They Do
As you explore the universe of No Man’s Sky, you’ll unsurprisingly come across an absolute ton of different materials, resources, and items that will come in handy along your journey. Plus, with the introduction of No Man’s Sky’s NEXT update, you can give these to friends, build bases, and more. Vortex Cubes are a resource you’ve likely come across in No Man’s Sky, or maybe you’ve just heard of these elusive items and want to know what you need to know to get them for yourself.
Vortex Cubes, first and foremost, don’t really have any particular purpose in No Man’s Sky. Sure, they can be used for crafting particular items such as the Beam Impact Theta weapon upgrade for your ship’s Phase Beam, but they’re also incredibly lucrative to simply sell to the highest bidder. As such, if you happen to come across Vortex Cubes in No Man’s Sky (which we’ll get to in a bit), we’d probably suggest selling them, rather than using them to craft anything else.
There are two different ways you’re likely to find Vortex Cubes in No Man’s Sky. First and foremost, and the way that’ll make you a very lucky space explorer, is by finding a Vortex Planet. These can’t really be identified when you’re flying around in your ship, so you’ll likely just stumble upon one by chance. When you land on a Vortex Planet, however, you’ll immediately notice a large amount of Vortex Cubes around the entrance to and inside caves. You can stack five in one inventory slot in your suit, so be sure to clear out space if you do find yourself on one of these planets.
The other way you may get Vortex Cubes in No Man’s Sky is by stumbling upon one when it’s placed on a podium of sorts. By interacting with a Vortex Cube sitting on one of these, you’ll trigger an alarm which sets your Wanted level to three, and has a bunch of Sentinels come after you. We’d therefore advise leaving these Vortex Cubes, unless you’re feeling capable of fending off your pursuers.
