What Guts Do and How to Upgrade Them in BattleTech
BattleTech is a turn-based strategy RPG which allows players to control a team of mechs. It is based on a boardgame of the same name and features a deep lore involving multiple families, factions and clans. There’s a ton of customization options available to the player, from the appearance and origins of their character to the exact load-outs of each mech in their squads. There are a handful of core stats which determine a pilot’s (or MechWarrior’s) performance in battle. These include Gunnery, Piloting, Guts and Tactics. In order to effectively utilize the correct MechWarrior for the right situation, you’ll need to take note of their strengths and weaknesses.
Guts in particular, is a very useful stat to keep an eye on. Guts improves the maximum health of a Mech Warrior; the higher the guts, the higher the health. It also reduces the penalty for weapon recoil and increases the threshold for when a mech will become overheated. Given how important it is to keep your mech from overheating, Guts should be one of the first stats you build up to help out early on. These are all vital components of battle, and must be monitored accordingly. As with any other skill, you can put XP into levelling up Guts in the MechWarrior section of the ship menu. By reaching certain levels, you will be granted bonus skills, both active and passive. An example of this is the Bulwork skill which is attained by reaching one of the lower Guts levels. It’s a passive skill that activates Guarded when remaining stationary.
In order to succeed in BattleTech you’ll have to specialize each BattleWarrior to suit certain battle scenarios. A balanced team is key, so be sure to cover all of the four key stats when building your team.
