Final Fantasy XV: How to Beat the Dread Behemoth

How to Beat the Dread Behemoth in Final Fantasy XV

Recommended Videos

Final Fantasy XV is still going strong and thanks to timed quests that will roll out periodically, players will have plenty of reasons to jump back in alongside Noctis and his pals. This week’s timed quest concerns a powerful boss called the Dread Behemoth. It’s a large Behemoth, meaning it has the powerful horns and huge claws you’ve learned to avoid. However, a major difference is that it has large, powerful wings as well that can make this fight a nightmare. Not to mention, it’s a Level 140 monster, so yeah, this isn’t going to be easy.

You can find the Dread Behemoth in the area directly north of where it says Longwythe Peak on your map. It will be wandering around, and is present even during the daytime. In order to prepare, you’ll want to make sure you have a lot of Fire Damage on your side, so craft some multi-cast spells and make sure that Ignis is ready to light things up. Needless to say, a Level 140 boss does a ton of damage, so bring plenty of Hi-Potions, Elixirs, and Phoenix Downs. If you thought Prompto and Ignis died easily before, prepare to watch your teammates drop like flies during this fight. Upping your defense with any gear you may have is advised as well.

Now the fight is fairly straight forward, like most other boss encounters in Final Fantasy XV. The Behemoth uses lots of lunge and sweeping attacks, meaning you don’t want to stand directly in front of it for too long, nor do you want to be in its area when it starts to roar, as it tends to sweep the area afterwards. Whenever it starts to hover in the air, make sure to move away immediately. It will pull off a powerful slam attack that can affect everyone in the area and deal massive damage. Ice slows it down a fair bit as well, even if it doesn’t do the most damage.

Having Gladio tank it is actually quite useful, though it can break away at times so make sure to keep on your guard. Other than that, it’s going to be pretty basic health management of your team, with Ignis being your priority since he’s big on elemental damage. Use constant Warp Strikes to get in and wreck the monster, then get out to catch a breather as the beast goes on the offensive. Rinse and repeat until the fight is done. Depending on your own level and damage output, the fight isn’t necessarily long, so don’t feel the need to rush it. That can often lead to mistakes which cost you the fight. It’s not an overly complicated encounter, so take your time and you will win.

For your efforts, you’ll earn the following rewards:

  • 30,000 EXP
  • 999 AP
  • 1.2 Million Gil

Not too shabby, huh? Oh, and you’ll also get massive bragging rights.

Do note that you have until March 20 to actually defeat this monster and claim your rewards. Happy hunting!
