Alongside today’s unveiling of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple also unveiled new wireless ear pods they have dubbed AirPods. Because the iPhone 7 will not have a headphone jack, the company came up with a way to still use their specially designed ear pods you don’t need to plug in.
In order to do this, the company made them rechargeable, and the charging port itself will be mobile and offer 24 hours of battery life. The AirPods will offer five straight hours of listening on a single charge. Apple has claimed they are making the listening experience better thanks to a W1 chip that is geared towards high-efficiency playback.
Those who stay away from wireless headphones because of the issues that come along with pairing have been assured by Apple those problems won’t follow the AirPods. The company says these ear pods use infrared sensors so the sound from your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 plus will only go to the AirPods once they are in a user’s ears.
Once they are in your ears, Apple says users will be able to access Siri with a double tap of the AirPods thanks to built in accelerometers. Voice accelerometers have also been included in order to recognize your voice and activate with a word.
Airpods will be available in late October for $159.
